Going Epic. Imperator Titan. Pt. 2

Here it is as promised :)
I've managed to finish the beast. You'll see that I kept the blue and white pattern, trying to make a nice combination. All the other ornaments just go in black, didn't want to overdone it with metals, as the huge amount of tiny details would make it look too baroque. The trick was making them apparent, but not distracting, so the eye gets the whole bulk but doesn't get lost in details:

Am I too much? Am I?

As the Imperator Titan is a shrine to the Omnissiah, it has to look like one! Well, the cathedral on its back should give you a hint, but I also thought it could be a nice touch making inscriptions on the ornaments, the kind of pious texts you can find on the walls of some of the most impressive churches and cathedrals. If you look closer to the pic below you will see what I mean:

Some of them unreadable. Well, I tried

So well, in fact this is a walking war cathedral. I added a banner (a regular Space Marine one) and, after some proper basing, this is the result:

Meet the Miserere Nobis

The name was something that popped up while writing the inscriptions. Miserere Nobis ("have mercy on us") sounded quite ecclesiastical and forceful for my purposes. So let it be. Here you have a comparison pic with Epic infantry:

Remember, not to scale, not even close. It is supposed to be way much larger

After I played Dropzone Commander, I really rediscovered the pleasure of playing smaller scales, and then I remembered I had this Titan and lots of other Epic stuff! So I'll be taking my tiny soldiers out of their boxes, paint all that I still have unpainted and see where this sillyness takes me!

  2. I find the last photos of the based model with banner to be very good. It really gives the sense of what a titan must be : a god on the battlefield.
Modelling wise, I would probably just need a little more contrast on such a model with a good spot colour (orange like you used for some of the windows).
You freenahds like writings and checkers are really cool but maybe just with a line of red/orange around to mek them 'pop' it coulstand a little more.
It's just a questioin of taste at this point though so please do ignore it if you will, I haven't had the model in hand after all ;)

    1. Thanks! I hadn't considered your point of view, I was trying to keep it dark and ominous. I may reconsider my choice, but I think the beast catches the eye!

    2. It does and once again, I'm not holding the modle in hand and therefore may be very biased by a purely 28mm scale approach of things here.

    3. Agh, you are a mean guy! Look what you did! Now I can only paint more stuff and take some comparison pics so you can judge! You are forcing me... :D

  3. That looks great, Suber! Really nice work.

Epic is something I always wished I'd got into and I am tempted from time to time but, alas, money (and time) is limited.

    Looking forward to more though......

    1. Thank you! From time to time you can find nice offers out there, it's a matter of patience, as always. Epic is nice, you can set some amazingly powerful displays on a board. I'll try to put some more stuff on mine!

  4. The amount of crazy little details on this small piece meant your choice of a simple colour scheme was the right one. It looks great. If you had tried to paint in many different colours (which you didn't) it would have been a mess. :)

    1. Thank you! I was aiming for something simple as I thought the mini itself is imposing enough on its own. Too many colours may draw your attention out of the general overview, and I wanted the spectator to get a first 'full impresion' before getting to details. Still have to see how this one stands besides other models!
