Crom "Fat Belly"

After my recent works involving quite a lot of minis (and while I'm working on more stuff -won't make any spoiler, you'll have to wait), I just wanted to paint any kind of standalone model. I wasn't too picky, I was simply looking for something quick to paint. I finally chose this cute guy from Knightmare Miniatures:

Cute indeed!
It's of course a 40K-ish version of Grom the Paunch, the largest Goblin ever. The sculpt is gorgeous, it really keeps the oldschool flavour and is a funny tribute to its WHFB counterpart.
I didn't take any WIP pics, I didn't see the point of it, as it's a pretty quick and straightforward paintjob.

Of course it's a fat belly! We're still under confinement!
I didn't want a gaudy green for the skin; in fact in the end it's not quite a colourful paintjob, I kept it under control, I hope it works.

Alongside other Knihgtmare Orks. Wow, big fella indeed
When repainted, these will be his minions
Come on, Imperial Guards, won't you be scared of a tiny Gretch... oh, wait.
I currently don't have an standing Ork army, but I do have plans. Ambitious plans. They will have to wait, but when they come together, Crom Fat Belly will be waiting to command the Gretchins to war!

  1. Loved to read I didn't want a gaudy... Followed by a pic of the rediest armoured Ork I've ever seen :D

You kept him at bay, rest assured.

Please avoid fat belly stuff in the future, haven't seen my feet in a while now 🤤

    1. :D :D :D
El rosa de las orejas es algo que hago siempre en Orkos y Gretchins; no sé, empecé y ya es una costumbre. He intentado eso, darle toques de color pero sin llegar a la Red Era de GW :D

  3. Knightmare did ace work on than not-Grom-the-Paunch model ;-)
Really like your color choice: back to the classic!

One day I also have to give a try to those hazard stripes...

    1. Thanks! They have really sweet models in their ranges. I felt this was asking for this kind of retro paint style. But now I feel somehow compelled to keep on painting greenskins!

  4. It's a great homage to a classic miniature isn't it?! I love the bulk and 40k stylings.

Really nice paint job too - I love the little dots of colour you've put around the model - his chainaxe, his kneedpad, and of course his nose!

    1. Thank you! It's a nice reimagination of the character, I find it a pretty fun concept. I was kind of tricky to find the balance. Too earthy palette and it would be a blurry mess of lost details -too bright colours and it would become a pantomime of what it's supposed to be. I hope I found a suitable balance!

    1. Thanks! Oh, come on, go splash some paint on it! I personally found it refreshing. I hadn't painted a greenskin in quite a while and it worked as a tiny side project. Now I feel strong enough to get back to my other larger silly projects! :D

  9. Great choice for a model. And I like the muted paintjob, because you accent it with so many daring highlights, like the axe. Bravo!

  10. Looks good and more importantly you had fun painting it. This post certainly is putting thoughts into my mind to "paint any kind of standalone model." as you put it :) Problem for me is to find that special mini that's quick and fun to paint.

    1. Ohh, sometimes you just need to take a break from greater projects and focus on something more manageable. It doesn't have to be anything special or particular, whatever works for you is fine!

  12. Somehow I skipped this sculpt when perusing the knightmare miniatures site. I missed out on his kickstarters, but his store is lovely. You’ve really brought the details to life, the hazard striping on the chainaxe and boils on his belly are ace.

    1. Thanks! They have quite an interesting range. I have a fistful of other Greenskins waiting for their moment to come, I need to do something about that!
