Prodos Predators

With the Aliens finished, it was time to work on the other half of the Aliens vs Predator title.

The faction has quite less minis, but they are, of course much more individualised. They are true monsters in the game, and all of them are characters on their own.

These are the three Predators from the core box (from the original KS)

The skin was pretty tricky. The base is German Fieldgrey from Vallejo. After generously inking it with Agrax, all the different highlights and skin tones were done adding browns and ochre/yellow to the base colour. It doesn't really show in the pic (grunt), but trust me, they are not monochrome :D

A pretty cool thing from the KS is that you could get cloaked Predators. I mean, clear resin ones:

The very same sculpts, yet transparent

In order to keep transparency, the minis came in hundreds (well, not as many, but they looked as hundreds!) of spare pieces. These were the first I glued of all the Predator batch, so I didn't notice they were exactly the same sculpts than the others! If only I had had the others as a visual reference, I guess the assembly would have been easier!:D

More Preds. These are the Warriors:

Power Rangers dressesd up as Predators, I would say
And the Berserker
Intense opera singer dressed up as a Predator

As I'm painting my pal's minis along with mine, I have several of these minis repeated. I think I can save you from identical pics, hehe. The only new thing is that I spared a few Predators of my own and gave them different bases, just in case I want to play something (yet to be determined!) on a jungle based board, which I think suits these guys as well.

More than enough for my purposes

The KS also included these Hounds. I'm afraid I'm not as familiar with the Yautja fluff to know anything about them, so I painted them this way. As the horns/spikes/whatever look horrible to me, I made a few slight variations on a couple of them, so they don't look so over the top.

They are over the top no matter what

So this is the Predator faction. But I'm not done yet!

Bonus content!

I have also painted the objective markers, both the generic from the core box and the Alien ones. If you look closer, you'll see the synthetic is not really Bishop, but he's as close as he can legally be (licenses and copyright issues, you  know :P)

Those skulls look awkwardly out of scale

This is it for now. So I only have the Marines to do, I tink I can be reasonably optimistic about the project... :)

  2. Great work on all your predators Suber, you've achieved a great looking skintone on them, and suitably detailed throughout.
The hounds come from the sequel film Predators, where you had the classic predator, and a stronger larger version as well, one of them used the hounds to flush out the prey. The film itself didn't do well in the cinema as it was released after AVP and AVP requiem which wasn't great

    1. Oh, I haven't seen that one. I'm afraid I've lost quite my interest on the franchise after the latest movies, so I guess, I'll sticjk to the classics! :D

  3. Very nice work! I know what you mean about the fleshtones: the flesh colour I use for orks always looks flat in pictures. They do look really cool, though. The hounds are a bit of a weird shape, but that's the film's fault. I really like the objective markers too. Not bad - for a human...

    1. Haha, thanks! The minis are super detailed, which is awesome, but that brings its own problem, as the fishnet suit is wonderfully sculpted, making it a hell of a problem to paint the skin properly! :D

  4. Te han quedado muy bien, y seguro que con el stargrave en puertas les podrás dar otro uso a los marines , predators y aliens.

    1. El juego de AvP es bueno, pero sí, es posible que busque también reglamentos ágiles para partidillas rápidas sin más...

  5. Really nice work!
The skin colours you've chosen work really well.
And I must say, the predators on the jungle bases really suits them perfectly and look brilliant.

    1. Thank you! I still don't have a clear idea of what to do with the jungle ones, but I'll have to work on that!

    2. I agree, the jungle bases really suit them... as much as I have a weakness for "Sulaco deckplate" style bases 😀

These all look fantastic, right out of the movies! I like that you picked up the cloaked predators too, because they're totally cool. Although TBH I'm not sure exactly what their role would be in a game since your opponent knows where they are?

    3. You dare to question the rule of cool? XD
I honestly don't recall any special rules for that in the book, I may have to have a look again...

  7. Very nice paint jobs! They look like they popped right out of the movies. I really like that you did the contrasting jungle bases. I think they make the models pop even more. Great job!

    1. Thanks! The thing is that I think I'm screwed now -I need a proper jungle board! What have I done?!

  8. Great looking skin! The bases are good too, with the variety of plants you would expect in a real jungle.

And as for a jungle board, I think everyone needs one eventually... The wargaming girl has been working on a pretty comprehensive one lately.

    1. All the minis in the game are top notch, really well designed and fantastically casted. There's a lot of attention to tiny details such as that one, and that's great. It's a shame the KS campaign didn't work as expected, it would have been great.
