Three Mekboyz walk into a Gargant...

After this strange Summer break, let's go back to some classics! Orks, for example!

I had a couple of Mekboyz (graceful donation by Iain from Caveadsum 1471) pending, and I also recovered this other ooold one I painted long years ago, when the Earth was young.

The Three Amigos

So you see, three Mekboyz walk into a Gargant.

First one says "She needs moar flama"...

...so he adds a giant flamer.

The second one says "Oh, but she needs moar dakka and kutta"...

...so he adds a giant saw and some real big guns.

The third one says "Bah, she needs moar punchy stuff"...

....then he adds giant steam-powered maces and some dreadful engines.

They peacefully sit and contemplate their work. Then one says...

"Hum, boyz, we don't even have a Gargant ta stick all dis stuff on"

Well, yes, I know, I have to learn to tell jokes.

Anyway, now I have some Mekaniaks, which are essential for any Warboss with some self-respect. Now I can think of adding weird vehicles and guns.

But I think I may do some different stuff before. Beware, a new project is coming...

  1. Excellent Mekboys Suber, very old school, great gift from Iain, and you've put them to good use. Look forward to seeing what they create for your mob, and what this new project is, a Mega Gargant maybe ! LOL

  3. Orks with very cool uniforms and gear and a really ... Orkish sense of humor!
Forgive our utter ignorance of 40K miniatures, but what are the discs each mekboy has on his back? A shield, a badge? Is it integral or is it a plastic addition?

    1. Thanks! :D Oh, those discs are part of the minis, I think that every Ork fig ever has one. They started sculpting them back in the old days and I believe they still are part of modern Orks.
Iit's a place to put identification badges. Clan marks or whatever. For example, for the Mekboyz the most common icon is some kind of wrench (That's what I attempted to do!), so it serves to ID the kind of troop or charactger withinthe army :)

  4. Awesome work on the Orks! The Mekk with the flamer is one of the best classic Orky sculpts and you've really done it justice!

    1. Thank you! I don't think I have an use for all of them within my Ork army, but I don't paint to play, so I'm cool with it!

  7. I always love your Orks Suber! This trio is so full of character, from their skin tones to the outfits. Those individual back glyphs are fantastic! Can't wait to see what this next project is.

    1. Thank you! You can see I'm trying a different approach from the usual, so I'm enjoying the challenge!
The next project... Hmmm... I only dare to say that is something totally new. I will have to create a new label for the post...
I don't think I can have anything ready to show within the week :( but I'm working hard on it!

  8. How nice to see them painted up, don't you need crew for your Gargant? Maybe when it's damaged and they have to abandon ship? Splendid painting as always!
    Best Iain

  9. Such clash of colors may not work for other minis but for orks they are sometimes almost the perfect color scheme. Great painting Suber!

    1. Thanks! I think that's the key here; the paintjob may not be a big thing, but if you pick colours that suit the minis, you have half of the work done :)

  11. Suber, you've really captured that orky feeling: colourful and grimey at the same time. I am going to be tackling some Rogue Trader orks in the near future, and these guys will be the first on my list when I start looking for inspiration.

    1. Thank you very much! I've found that changing the skin colour from the ubiquitous classic green to this kind of variety allows me quite a lot of chromatic freedom for the clothes and stuff, and I think it's nice to be able to do some different on these minis :)

    1. Thanks! I really cannot stand the modern looking of the Orks, with all those spikes, rough edges and junker-vibe, you know. These were so enjoyable!

  14. Lovely work & I agree with you those RT orks have a certain vibe.
    Thanks for sharing....
btw ... do you know you can stain wood with used teabags? Much cheaper than agrax earthshade for sure ;)
