...in this very blog...
...I used to paint (and even play!) the long forgotten Imperial Assault game. You know, the kind of Star Wars dungeon crawler, before the times of Legion (and of course Shattered Point). Even before those days, Knightmodels produced some really beautiful 28mm Star Wars minis.
I was there.
I still had some of them, unpainted, forgotten, waiting for years and years for their moment to finally come.
Well, better late than never. While I'm working on some other (titanic) projects, I've been putting some time on these, just to breathe within project stages.
I'll start with the Knightmodel minis. They were really, really sweet. I only managed to get a few of these second-hand, and honestly, I totally regret not buying more back then. I was caught up in other projects at the time and figured I could just get them later. But unfortunately, Knightmodels lost the license (same thing that happened later with the Lord of the Rings line), and the minis stopped being sold. Real shame, really.
Here you have them. Han Solo and Chewie carrying poor dismantled C3P0:

The other couple is our favourite and most famous twins (apart from those from the Acolyte TV show, of course -sarcasm mode off):

There's really little to say about these. They are true 28mm, well scaled and proportionate, so they can pose a challenge to all those who, like me, are so used to GW and their kind of minis. To better illustrate what I say, let's compare them to the Imperial Assault ones:

They are beautiful and really well sculpted |

Of course they are enormously cool, don't take me wrong |

But I think you can see what I'm talking about |
The Knightmodels ones are delicate and are of a different scale. They are white metal, traditionally sculpted. They are not as clumsy or random as a 3D sculpted mini; an elegant miniature for a more civilized age...
Here you have them all:

Sigh, still so very few... |
Fantastic painting Suber!! Especially the Leia figure.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Leia was a bit of a challenge—those tiny details can be tricky—but I'm glad she turned out well!
DeleteLovely work, you do the figures justice and more!
ReplyDeleteAlan Tradgardland
Thanks a lot! I tried to honor these classic minis, it's always rewarding to bring them to life after they've been waiting in the drawer for sooo long!
DeleteExcellent work and lovely painting, and I enjoyed your Obi Wan paraphrasing.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you! It seemed fitting for these elegant minis from a more civilized age ;) Appreciate your kind words!
DeleteNice work! These look really good. Knight miniatures made some really good models.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Knightmodels really did a fantastic job with these sculpts. It's a shame they're no longer available, but I'm happy to have a few in my collection. I hope I don't feel the urge to eBay more of them...
DeleteFantastic work on all of them Suber, the sculpts on the Knight models are really nice, sadly I have even less than you 0 !" LOL There are so many scales now, if they had stuck to one with the Star Wars models, they could have made rules for all the systems.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dave! I feel your pain—it's tough when the minis you want are hard to come by! The scale inconsistencies can be frustrating, I totally agree, I would have purchased minis to infinity and beyond if only they had been compatible, but the idea of having so evidently different scale minis really disencouraged me. Appreciate your thoughts!
DeleteAmazing work on them!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michal! Coming from someone with your talent, that's high praise!
DeleteKnightModels had such amazing miniatures! They look like a really nice collection!
ReplyDeleteKnightmodels truly created some gems. They have some really talented sculptors, every single mini I have bought from them has been a real pleasure, no matter the scale (they produced 28 and 72 mm stuff). Before they focused on the Batman license, they had some Star Wars and LOTR awesome minis. A shame they dropped both licenses (I believe they were incredibly expensive for such a modest company). In fact this reminds me I have a 72mm mini unpainted for endless years, I may have to look for it...
DeleteSplendid looking figures from a galaxy far far away! Leia is excellent, lovely finish all round!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you! Painting them was kind of an impulse, but I'm glad I did it!
DeleteI think I have some old metal West End Games SW figs in my storage somewhere...? Think those things were 25mm scale tho and had some bad mold lines.
ReplyDeleteLoving that Knightmodels Han sculpt tho. So much swagger. Love everything in this post. Very nicely done!
After watching the second and last season of Andor recently, my Starwars fandom has crested to the front once more. Might have to find those minis and see if I can't shave some mold lines off.
O and I know you haven't done anything for the game since 2015 (Cos I looked through your blog - not a stalker, no I am not.), but did you know the Relic Knights title was picked up from (Shitty Scammers) Ninja Division by a Texas based minis company called "Ignition Core Games"?
DeleteNew all-resin sculpts and much needed re-sculpts, fully supported, no empty promises, slow release schedule to be sure the same mistakes of the last producers aren't repeated... I'm very excited. You should look them up. :)
Oh, thank you very much! I'm googling it, you got my attention!
DeleteThanks for everything!
Oh those are actually super sweet, the swagger on that Han model is particularly good I love it. Imperial Assault always looked so fun, just never had the chance to try it out before it seems like the world passed it by. I was super into the WOTC Star Wars Miniatures game though, that was a blast.
ReplyDeleteOh, I had a few of those, but never got to do anything serious with them. Imperial Assault is a nice game, I should play it again!
