Some more progress on this! As I told last week, what I was missing here was a proper, decent standard bearer, to show off and sing the glory of the Ultrablah blah blah. No, I mean it. Any throne room worth of the name deserves a nice touch of colour. I simply got the Standard Bearer from the Calgar retinue again.
I had already taken that original awful helmet off. I hadn't tried before on the bodyguards, but it was easier on this one, so I had to do it. That also made everything easier now ;)
I removed the head again and used a helmet, just to give coherence to the whole group. Also had to reposition the sword arm, it would be a little bit ankward having the guy pointing wherever while his mates were watching over the boss.
I tried to save as much as I could from the original brushwork on the Standard. I saved the scrolls and the lower part, but repainted all the rest:
So you can see the final take on the minis. The style is quite homogeneous on the whole group:
No matter how colourful I look, my pose says I'm tired |
I said no autographs from the boss |
I wanted to be the Standard Bearer, but all I got was this stupid halberd |
Well, now that I have the characters, I only need the environment. As I need to move on, I think I'll take the easy approach. The final stage in a few days!
Great work! Very colourful. I think the halberd bodyguard is my favourite. Love the red along with the blue and white.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I tried to use bright colours and high contrast, glad you like it!
Deletethat banner just looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I repainted the main motif as it was a little bit plain; not that I got it exactly marvellous but well, it works :)
DeleteLooking good dude, nice banner! Can't wait for the final assembly :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, mate! I'll try a simple approach for the throne room, but I hope it makes its part. Incoming soon!
DeleteNot to be repetitive, but the banner is just really great.
ReplyDeleteThe halberd marine really stands out as well. Just very weel done all around.
Thank you so much, this last marine is the least converted of all, glad to hear such a positive response to the addition!
DeleteYour work never ceases to inspire, thanks
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a compliment! Thank you! I'm just trying to make a slightly imaginative twist, but the raw material and all the stuff were already there, I can take little credit for that! Thank you!
DeleteFantastic work on the facial features (fourth photo). Love your photo captions too Suber ... ^_^
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm on the verge of finishing the vignette, hopefully this very afternoon, we'll see the final result...
