The man who painted his Catan

There are two kind of people. Those who paint their minis and those who are able to play with soulless, inert, inanimate, dull, unpainted plastic. I hope you don't think I'm biased, of course, it was just but a perfectly neutral sentence (monocle on).

I guess that today's title gave me away. Yes, I did it. I had thought of that for some time, but never started. Hey, don't look me like that! What's up, didn't you paint your Space Hulk? Didn't you paint your Sadespire? Your Blackstone Fortress? This is just the same! Red & blue coloured plastic pieces! :D
Blah blah, I can't hear your reasons above my painted Catan :P

Of course it's the most basic paintjob imaginable, but here it is:

A couple of close-ups:

And the Robbers:

But that's not all! There was a time, back in the day, in which my regular gaming group was so large that we even needed the expansion set for a couple of additional players! Those days are sadly gone, but well, that's life, so there's no point in mourning. The thing is that I also had these other colours, so I had to paint them too:

Well, the least I can say is that now I have quite a variety of colours to play with! Here you have an example of the whole display:

Yes, I'm aware that there are 3D boards and, of course, that's the natural evolution of this madness. But for now storage is still an issue; if we at least played it regularly I could think of it. Hmmm, maybe some day...
Some day...

    1. I think you'll find there are three types of people in this world, my good man. Those who can count, and those who can't.

    2. :D :D :D
Anyway, board games are games too! They have their constitutional rights to be painted too!

I was given this last year and still haven’t opened it! Will be playing it this Christmas though with the family, so unpainted miniatures at first...

    1. Oh, you'll enjoy it for sure. It's the perfect family choice. Be careful! I didn't paint these for years and now I'm planning the whole 3D set!

  7. Wait, your Catan came with these little models?! Ours just has wooden house tokens and colored sticks! I did replace the Robber with a thematic Lego man though.

They look great anyway, nice work!

    1. ALWAYS! :D

No, seriously, I of course prefer playing with painted minis. It's not always possible, but I make serious efforts to it (as this very post shows!)
